Well here's my new blog, it may just be occasional entries and maybe what I've been building, repairing or whatever on the bench, or maybe just complaining about lousy band conditions or low activity !.
Here's a little thing I knocked up a while ago, a computer control interface for my Icom IC735 for experimenting with SDR etc. It all fitted nicely in the 9-pin D-plug housing.
Whilst I was having a session refurbishing my rigs I fitted new illumination to my Shimizu SS105s dials, nice high brightness LEDs in place of the blown bulbs.
When I was setting up my 144MHz ZL-specials I added a bit of weather-proofing to the phasing line with a piece of plastic water pipe with a slot at the bottom. It seems to be doing what it was hoped as it doesn't seem to matter if it is raining or not, the match ia unaffected. I currently have my portable 4ele quad stuck on a boom out the side of the mast to compare the performance of the 7/7 ZLs to, the usual estimate for a 4ele quad is 10dBd and the 7over7 pair do exceed that, but with very weak signals from any beacons etc it is difficult to get an accurate measurement, but my best estimate (+/- qsb) is somewhere between 2 and 3dB improvement.
